Say Goodbye to the Gutter!

Panoramic papers: Big impact, big opportunity

Printed materials showcasing dramatic imagery are all the rage this year — portfolio books, real estate guides, especially photo books. The market for photo books alone is growing almost 20% a year, according to Lyra Research. Mohawk Panoramic papers are the perfect, easy-to-use option to satisfy clients’ thirst for wide-screen visuals. There’s no better way to make a measurably big impact.

Designed to run on digital presses, panoramic pages lay perfectly flat when the book they’re bound into is finished. Best of all, they deliver stunning digital photo reproduction… without the traditional gutter running down the middle of the page. This layflat benefit is made possible by TRU-flat® binding technology from Convertible Solutions.

Today’s designers are embracing the creative potential of the panoramic format, through uses ranging from small branding books to presentations, proposals and of course photo books. Artists, art galleries and high-end product catalog designers love the ability to lay out their pages with no worries about images getting lost in the gutter.

Mohawk’s Panoramic papers come in four distinct finishes — uncoated, gloss coated, silk coated and proPhoto luster — and are perfect for high-impact marketing collateral. They have the flexibility to shine in everything from a self, soft-cover application to a hardcase-bound book.

Welcome to the new math

Finally, you can create brochures and books with page counts not divisible by four! The possibilities are outrageous: Think about customers who had too much content for a four-page brochure, but not enough for an eight-pager. Now you can quickly design a piece — or use our co-branded brochure — to sell the panoramic format to your customers.

Easy-to-use templates right here

One of the most common questions Mohawk heard after we launched Panoramic papers has been, “How do I design for this format?” Got that covered.

Introducing a new tool your designers and pre-press folks will love: Panoramic Layout Templates. No more wondering where your bleed should go, how many pages you can have, or how thick your spine needs to be. These templates offer great layout solutions for your customers’ projects.

The free ZIP file package contains the following:
• Book block templates for all supported sizes: 5 x 5 in., 5 x 8.5, 5 x 11, 7 x 5, 7 x 8.5 , 7 x 11, 8 x 5.5, 8.5 x 8.5, 8.5 x 11
• Cover templates for self, soft-cover applications for all the above sizes

Simple steps to start designing

1. Download the ZIP file package with the templates.
2. Choose an appropriate-size template.
3. Use the PDF template as a locked guide layer in a design program like InDesign or Illustrator.
4. Design your piece in a separate layer on top of the template layer.
5. Delete the template guide prior to printing. That’s it!
